Free Cell Phones
Have you heard about the governments free cell phones program called Lifeline? Here is how it works…
If you currently qualify for government assistance, or make below a certain amount, you may qualify to receive free cell phone service from the government. If you currently receive any of the following, you will also qualify for the government Lifeline program.
- Medicaid,
- Food Stamps,
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI),
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8),
- Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP),
- Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), or
- The National School Lunch Program’s Free Lunch Program.
Service for this program includes a free cell phone free minutes and texting. There are three different plans that you can register for. Each plan has its own benefits and negatives. Some plans have more minutes but less texting and some have rollover minutes. After you singup for the Lifeline program, you will have to choose which plan works best for you.
In addition to free service, you will also receive a free cell phone. There are a few free cell phones to choose from, but you also have the option of upgrading your cell phone at a slight extra charge.
This program is great for low income family’s who can’t otherwise afford cell phone service.
