Free Cell Phones

free cell phones

Have you heard about the free government cell phone program called Lifeline? Here is how it works…

If you currently qualify for government assistance, or make below a certain amount, you may qualify to receive free cell phone service from the government.  You also qualify if you currently receive any of the following:

  • Medicaid
  • Food Stamps
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
  • The National School Lunch Program’s Free Lunch Program

Service for this program includes a free cell phone, free minutes and free texting.  There are three different plans that you can register for.  Each plan has its own benefits and negatives.  Some plans have more minutes but less texting options while others have rollover minutes.  After you sign up for the Lifeline program, you will have to choose which plan works best for you.  In addition to free service, you will also receive a free cell phone. There are a few free cell phones to choose from, but you also have the option of upgrading your cell phone at a slightly extra charge.  This program is great for low income families  who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford cell phone service.
